Brazilian Terrier Personality traits and Temperament

They are also known as Fox Paulistinha, and are devoted family dogs. They are very active and lovable dogs who constantly demand your attention. They are fearless and cannot be easily intimidated by other animals. They need plenty of exercise and are not suited for an apartment lifestyle.

They enjoy long walks and playing in the yard. Outdoor activities tend to be advantageous to the dog both physically and mentally and also you will be able to avoid destruction to your house items which is usually what they do when they become restless in a limited space. They love to dig and it would be advantageous to provide him a digging area in your yard to play in.

They are very good around children especially the older ones. They do not like to be teased or pulled by their ears or tails, so their interactions with children should be always monitored. They are social with other dogs and cats especially if they are socialised early. They have strong prey drive and may not be the best breed to have around birds, hamsters, rabbits, etc.

They are very alert and make excellent watchdogs. They will bark at the slightest noise and will not stop until the owners respond. Sometimes the barking may get excessive, therefore these dogs have to be trained well to get rid of this vice. Early socialisation can also help curb the suspicious nature of these dogs

Grooming, Haircuts and Shedding

Their coat is relatively short and grooming them is easy and can be done once weekly in order to keep it neat and shiny. But they are medium shedders and regular grooming helps to get rid of the loose hairs. Baths should be given only when coat is excessively dirty. A mild shampoo can be use for giving a bath. Other basic grooming like trimming nails, brushing teeth and cleaning of ears should be done regularly.

The basic rule in training is to let the dog know that you are the leader. Even though they are very trainable, they have only an average learning rate. So owners must be persistent and firm. Never let these dogs get bored during the training sessions. A mix of praise and food rewards will help in proper training.
