Dachshunds (pronounced DAKS hund) are intelligent extroverts with a comical streak. They are devoted to their owners and like nothing better than spend quality time with them. They can become much attached to one person in the family and show considerable anguish and separation anxiety in his/her absence. They have short, thick, hard hair on the topcoat with a softer undercoat. The hard topcoat hair is found everywhere on the body except for the jaw, eyebrows, and ears. They are not a shedding breed and only need a bath when they get real dirty. They can get ear infections fast so special attention has to be given to their ears. Other grooming needs include nail care and dental hygiene.
