Tibetan Terrier Personality Traits and Temperament

The Tibetan Terrier, or Tsang Apso, isn’t actually a terrier. They were bred in monasteries as companions, watchdogs, herders, and good luck charms. They tend to be very easy-going and affectionate, sensitive and gentle with older children, although sometimes impatient with younger children.

They are energetic and strong, but cope well with apartment life if they are exercised regularly.
Their herding background makes them very loyal and protective of their ‘pack’.

They can get jealous of other pets, however, which makes them ideal for single-pet households.

Grooming, Haircuts and Shedding

Tibetan Terriers have a long-haired, fine double coat. The top coat feels quite similar to human hair, and needs very similar treatment.

In fact, you won’t go far wrong if you treat a Tibetan Terrier’s coat as you would your own hair.

It requires daily brushing and combing to avoid tangling and matting, and regular bathing is recommended. Its hair sheds very lightly, much like human hair.
