They are alert, spirited, independent, intelligent, keen, vigilant dogs. They love hanging around with people and are very loyal to their masters. They are very well mannered and responsive breeds and are a delight to have around. They are easily bored without human leadership and tend to get snappy and aggressive. They are very energetic dogs and need a lot of exercise to burn off their energy.
They make good apartment dogs. They love playing outdoors but ensure that the yard is securely fenced as they have a strong hunting instinct and can chase smaller animals. They are prone to digging and can mess up the yard.
They are affectionate towards their owners, and are devoted to the family and likes children but his small size makes him vulnerable to youngsters who can hurt him due to his small frame They do well with other pets if socialized early.

Grooming, Haircuts and Shedding
Brush the coat once a week with a rubber or bristle brush to get rid of dead hair and prevent matting. They shed, although not excessively, and regular brushing keeps this under control. They blow their coat twice a year, shedding heavily every spring and fall. They require a bath only when dirty.
Trim nails once or twice a month and brush their teeth regularly.

How to Train this dog
The Manchester is a quick learner. He responds well to positive reinforcement techniques such as praise, play and food rewards. To hold his attention, keep training sessions short, fun and interesting. They are very smart and will keep challenging your authority but in a funny sort of way. They can be stubborn and difficult to housebreak. Crate training is recommended.
Health Issues and Food
Diet: The breed should be given high quality dry dog food .The diet should match the dietary and hereditary requirements of the breed. Dry food /dry kibble will help prevent the disorders like build-up of plaque, tooth loss, gum disease and bad breath. The breed has a tendency to overeat. Hence the diet should be regularly monitored.
Allergies: May suffer from sneezing and certain skin related allergies
Health problems: The Toy Manchester Terriers are strong and sturdy animals. They are prone to glaucoma and a bleeding disorder called Von Willebrand’s disease. If the wounds are left open for a long time and exposed to sun, heat bumps appear.
