Toy Mexican Hairless Personality traits and Temperament

They are also known as Xoloitzcuintli or simply the Xolo. They are a calm, devoted, loving, sensitive and happy dog. He clings quite closely to his family and will follow you from room to room. They are often used in animal assisted therapy, because they are sensitive to the moods of humans and are a warm and affectionate companion.

They can also be energetic, agile athlete who loves to play and who needs a great deal of exercise and attention. They love toys, playing games in the yard and warming themselves in the sun, and may need a long, daily walk to burn off their energy. When taken outdoors they should always be leashed or in a securely fenced area, as they will chase after small animals. They can jump or climb fences and so is not a dog who can be left alone in a yard

They can be good for older children and get along with other pets if early socialised.

Although tender and loving with his family he is aloof and suspicious with strangers, and needs to have some exposure to them while still a puppy so that he doesn’t become nervous and timid. This makes the breed good watch dogs and they will not back down if they perceive the intruder as a serious threat. If they are not introduced to people while growing up, they might develop a hostile attitude towards people outside of their family.

Grooming, Haircuts and Shedding

Normally, they have no fur or dander and no possibility of fleas so they are popular as it is easy to groom them. Their coat has to be kept clean and soft. They need to be covered during harsh winters and because of the lack of fur, covered in sunscreen during the hot summers. Ears should be inspected from time to time and kept free of infections. Always use warm water and always lather and rinse them twice. Nails should be clipped regularly.

Early socialising is also necessary. They are not that easy to be house trained.

The requirement generally depends on the size and their activity level, so proper diet and exercise is needed to maintain an overall well being.
