Volpino Personality traits and Temperament

They are also known as the Florentine Spitz or the Italian Spitz. They are spirited, alert, intelligent, and friendly. They are very lively and has a great personality. They are full of energy and need regular exercising. They make good apartment dogs and are very devoted companion dogs. They like the attention given to them by the owners but are not clingy in nature.

They do very well around children and make great playmates. They love to engage in rough play within the house. Younger children should be taught how to handle these dogs. They co-exist well with other dogs too if introduced early.

Though small, they have a great bark and an amazing sense of hearing. Wary of strangers, this dog does not hesitate to bark, making him a reliable guard dog. They do not socialise very easily with visitors and take their own time to develop a rapport.

Grooming, Haircuts and Shedding

These dog are moderate shedders. They need regular brushing and this breed should not be bathed too often. The coat is straight and long and very dense and in the absence of daily brushing can get matted very fast. Brushing his teeth should be part of the grooming routine in order to maintain dental and overall health. His ears should also be inspected and kept clean to prevent infections, and his nails should be trimmed once each month.
